Term: Hair Chelator

This is a highly specialized type of pre-treatment which is used before certain chemical services provided at a salon or at home. Chelators are designed to neutralize metallic elements in or on the hair which could potentially interfere with the chemicals being provided. Chelator can be either a separate conditioner or an ingredient in a pretreatment product. The manufacturer will often provide detailed directions for use. Chelator products can also be used to remove product build-up on the hair. Chelators can at times be drying so they should be used only when necessary and carefully.
